What's Important?

A List

1. People's feelings; love, affection
2. Working enough to feel good
3. Playing beach volleyball, sunset nearby
4. Building up to achieving goals

Another List

1. Food
2. Shelter
3. Health
4. Family
5. Trying not to get mutilated or raped

---------------------------------
I struggle with this stuff. I wish I had a better perspective. The first list is my list, the second one is another woman's list, same age as me, who lives in the Congo (or somewhere else even).

Why do I become dissatisfied with this beautiful life? When does gratitude really, truly, take place - when it gets taken all away, and then given back again?

watching him watching her

I watched him looking over at her.

The two of them across the street from me, in remarkable contrast to each other.

She, petite and Chinese and cute, walking a wee dog on a thin black leash. Can't remember the dog, 'cause she was so fetching herself.

He, double-taking her as he strode by her on the right, tall and healthy-looking, with a huge backpack riding high behind his head and a rather awkward pack on his chest. He started to measure his steps a bit shorter, so that she would pass him, so he could look again.

She kept her head level and her eyes straight ahead. These Kitsilano Vancouver girls, they know when the guys are watching. Lululemon helps those narrow hips sway, but it doesn't bring out a friendly smile. He let her pass and then the interest on his face disappeared as quickly as a dead weight.

I shrugged to myself and continued to amble along in my baggy tai chi clothes, a non-descript observer who just watched everything happen, and nothing happened.
